LINDENWOOD 2, MILWAUKEE 1
ST. CHARLES, Mo. - It has been a decade since the last time Lindenwood Men's Soccer started their season with a record of 2-0. That streak came to an end on Tuesday evening when the Lions took down the Milwaukee Panthers by a score of 2-1.
Lindenwood started off the game by putting a lot of pressure on the Milwaukee defense, recording three shots and keeping possession of the ball for most of the first 10 minutes of the opening half. The Lion's defense picked up right where they left off in their season opener, holding the Panthers to just one shot in the first 20 minutes. The game would remain tied until the 25th minute before Lindenwood would strike first. Sebastia Cerda Tous would control a deflection off of a Milwaukee defender in the middle of the field, and would place a perfect pass to Alander Soares for his first goal as a Lion as Soares would beat the goalkeeper to the bottom left corner of the goal. Lindenwood would take the 1-0 advantage into halftime, recording 10 shots and five of those being on goal. Defensively, the Lions held the Panthers to seven first half shots and Quinn Closson recorded three saves in the opening 45 minutes of the game.
In the second half, Milwuakee would return the favor and put the pressure on the Lions defense recording two shots in the first seven minutes of the second half. In the 59th minute, the Panthers would even the score at one a piece as Oliver Weir would use his head to score the goal on a cross pass from Dominic Zuniga. The Lion defense would then hold their ground for the remainder of the game, limiting Milwaukee to just two shots over the final 30 minutes of the contest. The Panthers finished the game with 12 total shots, with only five of them being on goal.
In the last 10 minutes of the game, Lindenwood would get their second corner kick of the half with an opportunity to break the tie. Matteo Landais would send it long to Leandro Haesler, who would use his head to direct the ball to the middle of the box where Quinn Connolly would score on a header to give the Lions a 2-1 lead late in the second half. Landais recorded his team-leading third assist of the season, while Haesler added his second assist on the early season. The Lions outshot the Panthers 19-12 in the game, as Sebastia Cerda Tous led the team in shots with five and Quinn Closson ended the contest with four saves.
SOUTHERN INDIANA 1, ROSE-HULMAN 0
EVANSVILLE, Ind. - University of Southern Indiana Men's Soccer opened its five-game homestand with a 1-0 victory over Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology Tuesday night, notching the Screaming Eagles' first victory of the 2025 season.
After a 6-0 loss to Louisville, USI bounced back, securing its first home opener win since 2017. Junior Pablo Juan scored the Eagles' first goal of the season in the 64th minute, which proved to be the game-winner. Freshman forward Edin Cvorovic led the team in shots with two, one on goal.
The momentum began early in the match. Junior Sam McConnell recorded USI's first shot on goal of the season at the 10:46 mark in the first half. The Eagles followed it up with three more shots over the remainder of the half.
