CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - Southeast Missouri State (4-3) took down Big 10 Conference member Iowa (6-1) in a thrilling five-set match at Houck Field House on Thursday evening, winning 21-25, 25-23, 19-25, 25-22, 15-7.
The match marked the third-straight match for the Redhawks this season that went five sets, all resulting in Redhawks victories.
Iowa took an early 3-0 lead with consecutive kills from Carmel Vares. Southeast Missouri State responded with a 4-point streak, including a service ace by Lucy Arndt. Iowa maintained a narrow lead, edging out Southeast Mo. St. 25-21 by capitalizing on consecutive attack errors. Claire Ammeraal contributed significantly for the Hawkeyes, assisting on multiple key kills throughout the set.
Southeast Missouri State secured the set with a 25-23 win, showcasing resilience in a tightly contested set. Marin Johnson contributed significantly with multiple kills, including the set-winning point. Lucy Arndt was pivotal, delivering crucial kills and assisting the offense effectively. Iowa's Chard'e Vanzandt led her team with several kills, keeping the set competitive throughout. Both teams exchanged leads, reflecting a balanced performance with Southeast Missouri State edging ahead in the closing moments.
Iowa secured the set with a 25-19 victory, fueled by a dominant offensive performance. Vanzandt led the Hawkeyes with multiple kills, contributing significantly to their score. Carmel Vares added impact with several key kills, supported by Ammeraal's assists. Southeast Missouri State rallied with kills from Arndt and Johnson but couldn't close the gap. A service ace by Jaimie Marquardt helped the Hawkeyes maintain momentum in the set.

Southeast Missouri State opened the set with a 3-0 lead, including kills by Katherine St. John and Ramiri Gardner. Nina Schuberth delivered three service aces during a critical 8-0 run, pushing SEMO's lead to 14-6. Arndt contributed two kills and a block, helping to maintain SEMO's momentum throughout the set. Gardner tallied two early kills, setting the tone for SEMO's offensive efforts. SEMO secured the final set 15-7, clinching the match 3-2 over the Hawkeyes.

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. - Tennessee Tech made a valiant comeback in the third set against Wichita State on Thursday, but the Shockers took the three-set sweep in the first day of the Golden Eagle Invitational presented by Holiday Inn of Cookeville.
Wichita State improved to 5-2 on the season, including an earlier three-set sweep over Radford on the day, taking the match with the Golden Eagles 25-4, 25-10 and 25-17.
Bella Powell led Tech (2-5) with seven kills and nine digs, while Sarah Noto collected four kills in the contest. Jordan Karlen had 12 assists.
Sydney Dunning posted 13 kills and a .423 hitting percentage, while Brooklyn Leggett had 11 kills on 14 attacks for a .786 hitting percentage with three blocks.
It was a tough night for the Golden Eagles as they collected just two kills in the first set on 24 attacks. Tech had 19 total kills with 16 attack errors, while the Shockers were able to pull together 45 kills on 82 attacks and posted nine service aces.
