OMAHA, Neb. - Omaha scored a pair of first half goals Sunday and held on for a 2-1 win over SIUE men's soccer as the Cougars closed out nonconference play.
SIUE has dropped five games in a row and fell to 1-6. Omaha won for the first time this season to improve to 1-5-2.
The Mavs first goal came in the 30th minute, with Omaha taking advantage of a corner kick in the 30th. Maguire Perkins, headed home from the middle of the box after the corner came in from Yoshiki Igarashi.
Theo Klein made it 2-0 less than four minutes later when he banged home a cross that was misplayed in the box and the Mavs took the 2-0 lead into the break.
The Cougars pulled one back in the 52nd minute when they made a charge down the left side. Elliot Forestier delivered a perfect cross into the box where Evan Howard headed home for his team-leading fifth goal of the season.
Hugo Cornish nearly tied the game in the 73rd minute with a left footed shot from just inside the penalty area. His shot, headed for the corner, was saved by Omaha goalkeeper Kamy Ndione.
The Mavericks outshot the Cougars 11-5, including a 5-2 edge in shots on goal.
SIUE goalkeeper Noah Scheidwieler made three saves in the loss.
KANSAS CITY 3, WESTERN ILLINOIS 0
KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The Western Illinois men's soccer team dropped a 3–0 decision on the road Sunday night against Kansas City.
The Roos applied consistent offensive pressure throughout the match, out shooting the Leathernecks 18–3 and placing eight shots on goal. Kansas City found the back of the net three times and tallied five assists on the evening, showcasing a well-connected attack.
Western Illinois managed two shots on goal and earned a single corner kick, but struggled to generate sustained scoring opportunities against a strong KC back line. The Leathernecks' goalkeeper recorded five saves to keep the game within reach, but Kansas City's efficiency in the final third proved too much.
Both sides played physically, combining for 26 fouls and a yellow card apiece. Kansas City also held the edge in corner kicks (6–1) and offsides (3–1).
Goalkeeper Micah Ramirez made five saves to help keep WIU within striking distance. Defender August Jacus and forward Diego Porras each recorded a shot attempt, while defender Guillaume Brunet registered the Leathernecks' lone shot on goal in the first half. And Sophomore forward Benjamin Graham came off the bench to provide energy in the attack, notching a shot on goal in his 22 minutes of play. Western moves to 2-7 on the season.
CENTRAL ARKANSAS 1, EASTERN ILLINOIS 0
CONWAY, Ark. - Eastern Illinois men’s soccer finished with a 20-12 shot advantage on Sunday night but could not find the big shot into the net falling on the road 1-0 at Central Arkansas.
The Panthers applied pressure most of the evening playing with a man advantage for a majority of the second half. UCA goalkeeper Merrick Cook was able to turn away seven EIU shots on goal.
UCA was able to counter late in the second half for the only goal of the match as Devonte Richards scored in the 80th minute.
Sho Toda had two of the seven EIU shots on goal finishing the match with four total shots. Casey Welage and Ben Griffis each added three shots for the Panthers.
EIU dropped to 1-4-1 on the season while UCA improved to 1-5-1.
