EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. - Claire Nieroda scored twice in the second half as SIUE women's soccer scored a 2-1 come-from-behind victory over UT Martin Saturday night at Korte Stadium.
The victory improved SIUE's league-leading Ohio Valley Conference record to 3-0 and its overall record to 5-3-3. UT Martin dropped to 3-5-6 overall and 1-1-1 in the OVC.
UT Martin led at halftime 1-0 behind a goal at 13:09 from Unni Wolf from five yards out from Peyton Cook and Addy McCleary.
SIUE, playing as the 66ers, won the battle in shots in both halves and 11-8 overall.
Nieroda, who had five shots, buried her eighth goal of the season at 50:47. The game's equalizer was very similar to UT Martin's goal in that it was from just in front of the net on a pair of passes from Tori Bockstadter and MaryClaire Imig.
Tied 1-1, SIUE goalkeeper Baylor Lynch stepped up with a diving stop of a strong shot from UTM's Yaritza Trejo at 64:37.
The 66ers took that momentum and kept possession much of the rest of the game. A foul in the box from UT Martin silenced the crowd at Korte Stadium as Nieroda stepped up for her OVC-leading ninth goal on a penalty kick at 82:08.
Lynch finished with four saves as did UT Martin goalkeeper Mac Titus.
