EASTERN ILLINOIS 2, ARKANSAS-PINE BLUFF 0
PINE BLUFF, Ark. - Dalton Boruff, Nate Marshall, and James Geshel post a shutout to move EIU past Arkansas-Pine Bluff in game one of the midweek series. With today's win, the Panthers improved to 9-8, while the Golden Lions dropped to 8-13.
Boruff earned his first win of his senior campaign, tossing 5.2 scoreless innings with four strikeouts. Boruff held a no-hitter until UAPB collected two base hits in the bottom of the 6th innings. Boruff handed the ball over to Nate Marshall, who continued the dominance on the mound.
Marshall threw 2.2 innings of relief, striking out two hitters, allowing only one hit. James Geshel took over in the 9th inning to complete the save, forcing two flyouts.
The game was a different tone for the Panthers' lineup after scoring 25 runs against Memphis, only collecting two runs and four hits.
EIU jumped out in front early, driving in the first of two runs in the first inning. The leadoff hitter, Brett Stanley, singled to right. After advancing to third on a throwing error and a wild pitch, Stanley scored on a James Love groundout to third base.
Arkansas-Pine Bluff threatened to score in the 6th inning with a runner in scoring position, but Nate Marshall was called upon from the bullpen and forced an Ian Smith flyout to end the inning.
A pitching duel was on full display as Jack Hasten of the Golden Lions threw 5.0 innings, allowing three hits, and finished with a run scored on a fielding error.
James Reagan threw 2.0 innings of relief for UAPB and hit two batters, allowing the Panthers to score the insurance run in the 7th inning.
Peyton Wilson was hit by Reagan and advanced to second with a single to second base from Ethan Rossi. Wilson scored on a chaotic sequence of events, which started with Goodwin reaching first on a fielder's choice. However, Reagan's throw to first was off the mark, allowing Wilson to score the second run of the game.
Marshal and Geshel faced no trouble the rest of the way, allowing only one hit in the last three innings.
LITTLE ROCK 11, ORAL ROBERTS 1
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - It took a few innings for Little Rock to get going Tuesday, but once the offense came to life, it quickly sprinted past Oral Roberts for an 11-1 run-rule victory in the first of two midweek contests at Gary Hogan Field.
The offense wasn't the only thing clicking for the Trojans (11-9), as seven Little Rock pitchers combined to allow just three hits and one run, helping the team secure its third consecutive win.
The two teams will meet again Wednesday at 3 p.m., with Nic Bronzini getting the nod for the Trojans, who hit the road this weekend to open Ohio Valley Conference play against Tennessee Tech.
Gage Haley tossed two innings in the start, allowing the lone run of the day on a solo home run in the second inning. Blake Van Cleeve and Brayden Walls combined to cover the next two frames, with Walls recording a bases-loaded strikeout to shut down an ORU threat in the fourth.
Isaac Evaniew worked 1.1 innings to earn the win, Cline threw 1.2 perfect innings, and Brown handled the final frame to pick up the save. Brown entered the game with the Trojans leading just 4-1 before the offense erupted for seven runs in the eighth.
Eight different Trojans combined for 12 hits, led by Angel Cano, who homered as part of a game-high three-hit performance. His fifth home run of the season tied the game at 1-1 and sparked a four-run fifth inning for Little Rock.
Easton Roe collected two hits and drove in two runs, while Ty Rhoades doubled and added two RBIs. Jack Bilski also recorded a pair of hits, and Michael O'Brien singled in the final two runs of the contest.
TENNESSEE TECH 10, NORTH ALABAMA 9
FLORENCE, Ala. - Tennessee Tech continued its momentum Tuesday afternoon, using a late-game surge to secure a 10-9 victory over North Alabama and extend its winning streak to two games.
The Golden Eagles (9-12) jumped out early, plating six runs in the second inning to build a commanding lead. Owen Lee provided a major spark in the inning, launching a home run and finishing with four RBIs to pace the Tech offense. Tech has scored 26 runs in the last two games, and with Cade Fuller's game-winning home run, it marked the first homer of that type this season.
North Alabama (8-13) responded with a nine-run push across the fourth and fifth innings, erasing the deficit and setting up a dramatic finish. But Tennessee Tech answered when it mattered most.
With two outs in the top of the ninth, Cade Fuller delivered the decisive blow — a two-run home run that lifted the Golden Eagles back in front for good. Fuller finished with three RBIs, two runs scored, and added two stolen bases in a standout all-around performance.
Tech's offense capitalized on patience at the plate, drawing seven walks and producing timely hitting throughout. Connor Crowson added a pair of hits and an RBI, while Nash Crowell chipped in with a double and two runs scored.
On the mound, Alex Kuntz earned the win with a scoreless eighth inning, striking out two in a key relief appearance. Ty Barnett closed the door in the ninth to secure his first save of the season.
Despite surrendering 10 hits, the Golden Eagles' pitching staff limited further damage late, holding North Alabama scoreless over the final four innings to preserve the comeback victory.
