KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - Tennessee showed why it has one of the top teams in Division I softball on Tuesday as the Tennessee Tech softball team tried to find an answer for the Lady Vols, but found themselves on the short end of the 8-0 result in six innings.

Erin Nuwer improved her record to 12-1 on the season as she no-hit the Golden Eagles, walking one and striking out three. Tech had two base runners in all as Olivia Evans was hit by a pitch and Abbee Klinefelter reached on a walk.

Maddie Rutan started the scoring with a two-run home run in the second. Makenzie Butt had an RBI single in the fourth, then an error on Emma Clarke's double allowed the fourth run to score.

The Lady Vols added the first of three runs in the fifth with a sacrifice fly, then two more on Meredith Barnhart's double down the right field line. Tennessee then enacted the run rule with Alannah Leach's lead-off home run in the sixth.

Emily York took the loss, going 3 1/3 innings as she allowed four runs – three earned – on five hits, while Faith Rush went two-thirds, allowing two runs on one hit with a walk. Addison Abell pitched the final frame, allowing two runs on three hits.
