OVC Spring Meetings Set Table for Continued Growth and Success

BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – The Ohio Valley Conference conducted its annual Spring Meetings in Franklin, Tennessee May 27-29.

The meetings, the first under OVC Commissioner Matt Wilson who began his duties on May 18, 2026, helped the membership set the table for the next iteration of the OVC.

"These meetings reinforced that the Ohio Valley Conference is united by a shared vision and a strong sense of alignment,” said Wilson. “The enthusiasm, collaboration, and forward-thinking mindset demonstrated by our institutional leaders will power our future. As I begin my tenure as commissioner, I am energized by the opportunity to partner with our membership, listen to their ideas, and help shape a future that values the student-athlete experience, strengthens our institutions, and positions the OVC for sustained impact across the collegiate athletics landscape."

As part of the meetings, the Huron Consulting Group presented recommendations from a sixth-month engagement to the OVC Board of Presidents and Chancellors and Council of Directors of Athletics. The analysis serves as a foundation for the OVC’s future decision making in enhancing the Conference’s competitiveness, membership and financial stability.

Attendees also had a chance to discuss national issues, get updates from OVC representatives in NCAA governance and discuss future meeting cadence.

The meetings approved the championships calendar for the 2026-27 academic year. The 2026-27 calendar begins with the OVC Cross Country Championship on October 30 in Cape Girardeau and concludes with the OVC Baseball Championship in Marion, Illinois in May.

The Conference announced its incoming leadership team with Steven J. Bridges, President of the University of Southern Indiana, serving as Chair of the Board of Presidents, while Jason Coomer of Lindenwood University will chair the Council of Directors of Athletics. They follow Lindenwood President Dr. John Porter and Morehead State Director of Athletics Kelly Wells, who concluded their terms as Chairs.

The League's annual Honors Dinner recognized outstanding achievements across the Conference, celebrating Hayden Bell (Morehead State) and Addi Brownfield (Western Illinois) as the League’s Steve Hamilton Sportsmanship Award winners while the Conference welcomed three individuals into the OVC Hall of Fame in Ron Hines (Southeast Missouri), Lana Richmond (Southeast Missouri) and Dennis Taylor (UT Martin).
