Making USI's defensive efforts more impressive was that the Purple Aces (1-4-2) had nine corner kicks on the night.
Offensively, sophomore midfielder Edin Cvorovic led USI with a pair of shots, including one on goal. Fellow classmate Jimmy Murphy and senior defender Ian Graham also had shots for the Screaming Eagles, who were limited to just four on the night.
USI returns to action Friday 6:30 p.m. when it travels to Nashville, Tennessee, to take on Belmont University. The Bruins are 2-3-1 on the season after falling to East Tennessee State University, 4-3, last Saturday.
TULSA, Okla. - The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros men’s soccer team fell 2-0 to the Oral Roberts (ORU) Golden Eagles at Case Soccer Complex Tuesday.
The Golden Eagles (2-3-2) earned the win with a deep strike from Lazarus Ocira in the 59th minute. Emre Aydin added an insurance goal in the 76th minute to secure the win.
Three Vaqueros (2-1-1) played the full match, including goalkeeper Conrad Knight who recorded two saves on the evening, senior Malang Mandiang, and freshman Victor van der Aa. Fifth year captain Eduardo De Oliveira led the Vaqueros with four shots. In addition, De Oliveira and freshman Mauricio Arreguin led UTRGV in shots on goal with one apiece.
The Vaqueros started off the match slow, giving up two shots within the first six minutes of the match, but settled into their defensive shape soon afterwards, holding ORU without a shot for the next 30 minutes.
UTRGV took the next four shots of the match, including two opportunities created by junior Elias Taj, who worked his way through the ORU defense and reached the top of the box before sending both attempts high.
The best look of the match came from Arreguin who received a pass on the left wing, entered the box, and fired a shot toward the upper corner that was pushed over the crossbar by Golden Eagles goalkeeper Cameron Parma in the 31st minute.
ORU created a couple solid attacks but couldn’t find space for a shot until the 41st minute when Aydin received the pass off a good combination play in the left side of the box. Aydin fired a shot but was stopped by a diving Knight for his first save of the match.
The Golden Eagles had one more shot attempt that sailed wide left of the goal with five seconds to go in the half. Knight and Parma had one save apiece in the first half. Both teams had four shots and one shot on goal in the half.
After Ocira’s goal, ORU put another shot on goal in the 60th minute, but the diving Knight punched the ball wide right of the net.
The Golden Eagles increased the pressure in the second half, using sustained possession to create opportunities and outshooting the Vaqueros 6-4, including a 3-1 advantage in shots on goal.
In the match, ORU outshot UTRGV 11-8 with a 4-2 advantage on goal. Despite the result, UTRGV generated 10 corner kicks while holding Oral Roberts to one.
Three yellow cards were assessed in the match, one apiece to ORU’s Roman Hemphill and Samuel Jones while UTRGV sophomore Sammy Jadid received a yellow card as well.
LINDENWOOD 0, TULSA 0
ST. CHARLES, Mo. - The Lindenwood Men's Soccer team (3-2-2) played to a scoreless draw on Tuesday night against Tulsa to wrap up their final non-conference home game of the 2026 season. The Lions outshot the Golden Hurricane in the contest 11-8 and had plenty of scoring opportunities off set pieces, but were unable to come through.
Thato Lekgetho led Lindenwood in the first half by recording four total shots and two shots on target in a span of 14 minutes, but the Tulsa goalkeeper turned away both shots on goal to keep the game knotted at zero. Later in the half, Luca Bartoni had a great scoring opportunity on a free kick from the top left side of the box in the 34th minute, but his shot sailed just past the right post as both squads were still searching for the first goal of the contest. The defense allowed three first half Tulsa shots with just one being on target in the 12th minute that was handled easily by Quinn Closson, while the Lions ended the opening 45 minutes of play with eight total shots.
To start the second half, there was a lightning delay 10 minutes into the second 45 minutes of play, and the game was halted for an hour. Upon resumption of play, Lindenwood continued to put pressure on the Tulsa defense thanks to shots from Gabriel Tonks and Javaun Mills, but neither attempt was on target. Although the attempt from Tonks was off the mark, the 5'10 Junior was able to gather the ball from the top of the box and fired a shot that just barely missed the top left corner of the goal as the game still remained tied at zero.
The final 15 minutes of the second half saw Quinn Closson make four saves on a couple of quality scoring chances generated by Tulsa en route to his third cleansheet of the season. His five saves overall for the contest also marked a season-high.
