MURRAY, Ky. - Eastern Kentucky advanced to the finals of the OVC Soccer Championship for the first time as the Colonels defeated Tennessee Tech on penalty kicks.
The Colonels will play the winner of the Murray State/SIUE contest on Sunday at 1 p.m. CT
Eastern Kentucky's Anna Hall made seven saves as she notched her 11th shutout of the season. Tennessee Tech goalkeeper Kari Naerdemann also made seven stops for her 11th shutout of the year.
Jordan Foster led the Colonels with three shots, including two on goal.
Tennessee Tech's Karigan Owens recorded a team-high three shots and two shots on goal.
The Golden Eagles finished the season with a 11-6-4 overall mark.
SIUE 2, MURRAY STATE 1
MURRAY, KY. - SIUE upset Murray State, 2-1, in overtime to advance to finals of the OVC Soccer Championship. The Cougars will face Eastern Kentucky on Sunday at 1 p.m.
SIUE took the lead in the second half as Sydney Moore scored the game's first goal in the 56th minute.
Murray State would tie it up less than 10 minutes later as Harriet Withers scored her eighth goal of the season.
Neither team would scored the rest of the way to send it into overtime.
The Cougars' Peyton Roenhelt found the back of the net with under a minute remaianing in the first overtime to send SIUE to the championship match.
SIUE's Juli Rossi made four saves while up just one goal in the win.
Murray State goalkeeper Alex Steigerwald would make five saves while allowing two goals. The Racers finishe the season with 8-5-4 mark.
