CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - Belmont became the first sixth seed to win the OVC Soccer Championship as the Bruins won the title on penalty kicks over SIUE.
The Bruins earned its first OVC Soccer Championship crown and the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournanament. Belmont will find out who it will play during the selection show on Monday at 3:30 p.m. CT on NCAA.com.
The Cougars outshot the Bruins 21-14 in the match with Mackenzie Litzsinger leading the way with nine.
Julie Garst led the Bruins with six shots while Niki Clements had four.
Belmont's Lily Herman made six stops while SIUE keeper Jensen Schoch had three saves.
