OVC Players of the Week- August 23

 
Offensive
Sidney Christopher, MF, 5-3, So., New Baden, Ill. - SIUE
Christopher scored the game-winning goal in the 86th minute in SIUE’s win over Indiana State to open up the 2022 season. She also added an assist in the victory. Christopher posted a second assist on the weekend against IUPUI.

Defensive
Sarah Hagg, D, 5-7, So., Horgenzell, Germany - Eastern Illinois
Hagg helped Eastern Illinois open the weekend with a pair of shutouts. She anchored the back line as the Panthers posted a 0-0 draw against Missouri Valley preseason favorite Valparaiso. She was also part of the defense that shutout Purdue Fort Wayne. Hagg played all 180 minutes last week.

Goalkeeper
Daniela Bermeo, GK, 5th year, Barcelona, Spain - Eastern Illinois
Bermeo made her first start in net since the spring of 2021 and posted a pair of clean sheets last week. She made four saves in the draw against Missouri Valley preseason favorite Valparaiso. Against Purdue Fort Wayne, she made eight save en route to a 2-0 victory.

This Week’s Highlights
 
Lindenwood and Southern Indiana picked up their first Division I soccer wins last week. The Lions defeated Southern Illinois, 2-0, while the Screaming Eagles topped Winona State, 1-0. Eastern Illinois’ Jenna Little scored a pair of goals in the Panthers’ win over Purdue Fort Wayne. Morehead State new head coach Chris Fox picked up his first win as the Eagles defeated Central Michigan in the season opener. Southeast Missouri’s Cayla Koerner scored her first collegiate goal in the win over Illinois-Springfield. SIUE’s Sidney Christopher started the season with a goal and two assists and now has 10 career points as a sophomore. Tennessee Tech held both its opponents scoreless in the first half to open up the season. UT Martin’s Catey Hunt scored her third career goal in the match against Kentucky.

2022 OVC Soccer Championship: The 2022 Ohio Valley Conference Soccer Championship will consist of the top eight teams in the league. The first round and quarter finals will take place on Oct. 28 and 30 on the campus of the No. 3 and No. 4 seeds. The semifinals and finals will take place Nov. 4 and 6 on the campus of the top seed. The entire tournament will be streamed on ESPN+
