KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - The Belmont women's soccer team (1-4-1) battled but was unable to come away with a win at first-time opponent Tennessee (5-0-3). The Vols pushed past the Bruins, 8-0, on Sunday afternoon.
The first stanza was near even in output despite the two goals netted by Tennessee midway through. As the teams headed into the halftime break, they were only separated by two shots. Junior Stephanie Bukovec (Toronto, Ontario, Canada) came away with four crucial stops in the half.
UT exploded for six more goals in the second half.
Eight individual Bruins fired shots at the Vol goal during the matchup. Freshman Allie Svoboda (Lisle, Ill.) and junior Rachael Ballish (Cincinnati, Ohio) each recorded a shot on goal.
Between the posts, Bukovec logged 67 minutes and collected four saves while senior Lindsey Espe (LaCanada, Calif.) grabbed one in the final 22 minutes of regulation in relief.
The eight goal deficit was the most for Belmont since the 2004 campaign.

An own goal just before half halftime gave the Musketeers a 4-0 lead just before the break.
Freshman goalkeeper Anna Hall spelled senior Samm Melton in the second, however, and made two saves as the Colonel defense clamped down and blanked the hosts in the final 45 minutes.
Freshman Monica Rios played all 90 minutes of the game and attempted a season-high six shots for the Colonels. Sophomore Emmi Carroll fired two shots in the defeat.

The Cougars scored early in the 13th minute on a free kick from Jorie Clawson to Cassidy Sherman. Clawson floated the ball to the net from 35 yards out, where Sherman was able to head the ball in from close range. The goal was Sherman's second on the year.

TENNESSEE TECH 1, RADFORD 0
COOKEVILLE, Tenn. - Late-match dramatics carried the way Sunday afternoon, as the Tennessee Tech soccer team scored with just 10 seconds remaining the second overtime to prevail 1-0 over Radford to continue Tech's recent run of success.
For the first time in her collegiate career, freshman Mayra Tarraga Manzal found the back of the net to break the scoreless deadlock in the waning moments, scoring on a beautiful ball from sophomore Lauren Brewer to prevent the Golden Eagles (2-3-2) from checking the tie column for the third consecutive match. Tech is now unbeaten in its last four tilts, collecting two wins and two draws over a span that dates back to Aug. 30.
With 30 seconds remaining the second overtime, the Golden Eagles lined up the first corner in the pair of extra sessions, stirring a buzz in the air that blanketed Tech Soccer Field. Despite coming up empty on the initial attempt, the ball ricocheted back outside to Lauren Brewer, who was able to seize it before it went out of bounds to give Tech one final look at victory.
The Crestwood, Ky. native then sent one soaring into the box that caromed off the try of Tarraga Manzanal and into the back of the net to cap off the theatrical finish.
Pruett helped anchor another sparkling Golden Eagle defensive effort that resulted in the club's second shutout in the last three matches. In fact, dating back to Aug. 30, Tech has yielded just one score in the last 367 minutes of action, and has given up only one goal or less in its last six matches.
Freshman Kari Naerdemann blanked the Highlanders (4-3-0) for her second collegiate shutout and second in the last three matches. The Herne, Germany native made six stops in the victory, matching the total of Radford's Katie McCormick, who halted six Tech shots as well.
Paced by a career-high five shots from sophomore Karigan Owens, Tech ripped 15 total in the match. Senior Asyia Mitchell led the Highlander charge with three of Radford's 16 shots.
The Golden Eagles will remain at home, hosting Troy University on Friday, Sep. 18 at 4 p.m. CT, before welcoming in Chattanooga on Sunday, Sep. 20 at 1 p.m.
MOREHEAD STATE 2, CHARLESTON SOUTHERN 2
CHARLESTON, S.C. - A full 90 minutes and two 10 minute overtime periods were not enough as Morehead State and Charleston Southern played to a 2-2 tie in the Nike Challenge at CSU.
Freshman forward Dani Wilson played her familiar role as an offensive playmaker, but today she was more of a distributor than a scorer. In the 28th minute, Wilson broke into the goalkeeper's box to find senior midfielder Kristi Gomez slashing through to connect on an off balanced goalkeeper to take the 1-0 lead.
Wilson would keep up the magic in the 32nd minute. She attacked from the left corner of the goalkeeper's box, feeding junior forward Lauren Duffy for the lead pass. Duffy's shot was blocked by the goalkeeper, but she collected the rebound, tapping it in to make the score 2-0.The goal by Duffy was the first collegiate goal of her career.
CSU would answer in the 57th minute to cut the lead in half. Sophomore forward Anna Sells took a throw in from the far sideline, dribbled into the box, and struck from 15 yards out. The goal for Sells was her third of the season.
The Bucs would keep up the attack in the closing minutes, scoring off an assist from Sells. Sophomore midfielder Erica Gazzani made her way into the box for a 10 yard strike, tying the game at two.
Four players for MSU were named to the Nike Challenge first team, senior midfielder Kristi Gomez, freshman defender Makenna Lavatori, freshman forward Samantha Damante, and freshman forward Dani Wilson.

JACKSONVILLE STATE 7, ALABAMA STATE 0
JACKSONVILLE, Ala. - Senior Brianna Boutziouvis scored a pair of goals and freshman Madison Carruthers recorded a trio of assists to lead Jacksonville State to a 7-0 win over in-state foe Alabama State in women's college soccer action on Sunday at the JSU Soccer Field.
With the result, the Gamecocks improved to 3-4 on the season and will close out the non-conference slate next Sunday evening at Alabama in Tuscaloosa. The Hornets dropped to 0-6-1 on the season.
JSU started the scoring barrage in the 20th minute as senior Courtney Hurt's goal started a string of goals within a 10-minute span that pushed the lead out to 3-0. Kelsey Bright, from Kingwood, Texas, set a cross for Hurt from the left side of the box for the Huntsville, Alabama product to put in the back of the net. Boutiziouvis connected on her first of two goals on the day moments later after Bright dribbled the ball to the keeper and with a touch pass to Boutziouvis for the goal. It is the second time that the Ottawa, Ontario, Canada forward has posted a pair of goals in a contest. She turned in two goals last season against Mississippi Valley State. Bright's pair of assists also matches her career high in assists in a contest against MVSU in 2014. Bright also contributed in the scoring column with JSU's sixth goal of the day in the 66th minute.
Nicola Dominikovich tallied the third goal in that time frame as freshman Madison Carruthers served up a perfect cross from the left side of the box for Dominikovich. It was her first goal of the season and fifth of her career. Senior Kristen Hoo posted her second career goal just before the halftime break as Carruthers dished out another solid ball from the left side to set up Hoo for the goal.
Junior Blair Barker closed out the scoring for Jax State with a goal in the 87th minute after Carruthers' third assist of the game. The last time JSU had an individual credited with three assists in a match was Hurt's three assists against Belmont last season. It is just the third time that it has happened in the program's history.
JSU controlled the tempo of the match and turned in a season-high 23 shots against the Hornets. ASU was limited to just six total shots in the loss.
Sophomore goalkeeper Caroline Robinson carded her second shutout of the season after blanking Jackson State last Sunday. Robinson finished with five saves.
