INDIANA STATE 1, EASTERN ILLINOIS 0
TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -
Indiana State women’s soccer had the upper hand in the annual border contest with Eastern Illinois as the Sycamores held off the Panthers 1-0 on Sunday afternoon.

EIU fell to 1-4-1 on the season and will host Bowling Green next Friday at 3 p.m. at Lakeside Field.  ISU improved to 3-3.

Indiana State scored in the 8th minute and then made that goal stand up for the win.  Maddie Orf connected high into the net following an eight yard cross from Kate Johnson.

Both teams packed in defensively as ISU recorded only four shots on goal compared to just one shot on goal attempt for EIU.

Maddie Lyon finished with three saves for the Panthers.  Brittany San Roman posted the shutout win for the Sycamores.

EIU’s one shot on goal in the match was by senior Hannah Miller who scored her first goal of the last on Friday during the 3-1 win over IPFW.

UMKC 4, UT MARTIN 1
KANSAS CITY, Mo. -
Freshman forward Lisa Schmieder’s first career goal wasn’t enough for the University of Tennessee at Martin women’s soccer team as the Skyhawks fell on the road to Missouri-Kansas City 4-1.

UT Martin (1-4) fired 12 shots against UMKC (5-1), their second highest of the season while placing eight on goal. Saphyra Coombs-James and Amy McGivern led the team with a team-high three shots while placing two on goal each. Freshman Sierra Franz also fired two shots on the UMKC goal to tie Coombs-James and McGivern for the team high. Freshman Katelyn Colvin placed her first college shot on net while Schmieder rounded out the offense with her goal on her only shot of the match. In goal both MaKenzie Crawford and Maya Jamison saw action, combining for seven saves.

UMKC outshot the Skyhawks by a 19-12 margin, while landing 11 shots on the UT Martin goal. Reighan Childers led the scoring attack for the Kangaroos with a pair of goals on only two shots while Kelsey Motherhead and Lexie Howard completed the scoring. Maureen Bigsby added to the scoresheet with an assist on UMKC’s opening goal in the 2nd minute. Nina Tzianos played all 90 minutes in goal for the Kangaroos, notching seven saves.

Trailing 4-0 in the second half, the Skyhawks avoided the shutout in the 63rd minute. After Coombs-James shot was saved by Tzianos in the 18-yard box, Schmieder regained possession and slotted home the goal. The goal by the Elzach, Germany native against the Skyhawks means UT Martin has had goals from four freshmen this season. Joining Schmieder, are Amy McGivern and Sierra Franz who scored against Evansville, and Sydney Norris who scored from 20-yards out against Troy last weekend.

UT Martin continues its eight match road trip to begin the season with a match up against Memphis on Friday, Sept. 11. The two teams haven’t faced each other since the 2011 NCAA Tournament, which was the Skyhawks first NCAA appearance. Kickoff from the Mike Rose Soccer Complex is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

SIUE 7, CHICAGO STATE 0
CHICAGO, Ill. -
Seven different SIUE women's soccer players scored as the team captured its first win of the season in a 7-0 road win over Chicago State.

The 7-0 win marks the largest margin of victory for the program in the Division I era. With the win, SIUE improves to 1-3-2 on the year, while Chicago State falls to 0-5.

SIUE struck quickly, scoring two goals within the first five minutes of the game. Caroline Hoefert, scoring the first goal for the Cougars this season, netted the ball after an assist from Emily Grahl. Just seconds later, Kassidy Rawdon played a ball up the field to Grahl, who took her defender one-on-one to make the score 2-0.

SIUE went into the half 2-0, but a goal by Cassidy Sherman in the 55th minute sparked a second-half offensive explosion. Sherman was assisted by Grahl on a shot ten yards out from the net.

A penalty kick by Katye Skrivan put the Cougars up 4-0 in the 59th minute.

Skrivan again was involved in SIUE's fifth goal of the game, dishing off a pass to Ashlyn Walter, scoring her first career goal with 28 minutes remaining.

Lindsey Fencel, scoring her first career goal as a Cougar in the 72nd minute, made the score 6-0 on a through ball from Skrivan up the field.

Scoring the final goal for SIUE was freshman Avery Anderson on an assist from fellow freshman Courtney Benning with 10 minutes left in the game.

SIUE tallied 34 shots on the game, which is the most shots attempted by an SIUE women's soccer team against a Division I opponent. Goalkeeper Jennifer Pelley made one save in her 24th career shutout. Grahl and Skrivan led the team in scoring, each with four points on a goal and two assists.

The Cougars play their home-opener in a Friday night match-up against Saint Louis. Game time is set for 7 p.m. at Korte Stadium.

AIR FORCE 3, MOREHEAD STATE 1
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -
A physical contest in the high altitude of the Rocky Mountains led to a 3-1 loss to Air Force at Cadet Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Freshman forward Dani Wilson kept up her offensive onslaught by striking first for the Eagles in the 15th minute. She took a lead pass from senior defender Kelsey Patera and bobbed and weaved into the goalkeepers' box to beat sophomore goalie Meghan Strange for her fourth goal of the season.

The Falcons answered with a game-tying goal in the 47th minute off of a header from sophomore midfielder Angela Karamanos. She sped her way into the goalkeepers' box, delivering off of an assist from sophomore defender Morgan Mavroudis.

Air Force's aggressive offensive style continued as the match progressed late into the second half. The Falcons took the lead for good in the 78th minute, as senior forward Ally Swift scored on a breakaway against freshman goalkeeper Michelle Washburn, who made her collegiate debut. The Falcons finished off the afternoon with Swift's second goal, as she scored off of an assist from sophomore midfielder Brooke Rittman with a header into the top right corner of the net.

According to head coach Warren Lipka, the first road trip of the season was a learning experience for his resilient team.

The Eagles continue their four-game road stretch with the final two games in Charleston, S.C. On Friday at 2 p.m. ET they take on Francis Marion and on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET they face Charleston Southern.

TENNESSEE TECH 1, GEORGIA STATE 1
ATLANTA, Ga. -
Junior Kalyn Pruett scored her first goal of the season and freshman Kari Naerdemann made five key saves to help lead the Tennessee Tech soccer team to a 1-1 draw with Georgia State, halting the Panthers' (4-0-1) four-match win streak to begin 2015.

The Golden Eagles (1-3-2) conclude their two-match road swing in the state of Georgia with a pair of ties, after blanking Mercer in a scoreless draw with the Bears Friday evening. So far this season, Tech has yielded just two goals in 310 minutes of action on the road.

Tech leapt on the board first in the 22nd minute thanks to a Kalyn Pruett score, the junior from Nashville's first goal of her career. The net-finder came off of a Zoie Hensley free kick as the 5-foot-4 sophomore records her club-leading third assist of the season to already match a career high for the Ranchos de Taos, N.M. native.

Georgia State responded to the early adversity, scoring a mere nine minutes later on a header by senior Jenna Moore for her first goal of the year to deadlock the tilt at 1-1. The 5-foot-9 defender buried it into the back of the net off of a corner from fellow senior Margaret Bruemmer, who notched an assist on the play.

The goal marked the first time in 2015 that the Golden Eagles have given up a first half score, snapping a program-record of five consecutive matches to begin the season without allowing a goal in the first period. And although the history-making streak came to a close, the Tech defensive unit bounced back to blank the Panthers in the second half for TTU's third second-stanza shutout of the year.

Freshman goalkeeper Kari Naerdemann played a pivotal role in the stellar defensive effort, stopping five-of-six shots that came her way, including two essential halts in the second overtime. In fact, one of Naerdemann's two saves in the second overtime was as good a stop as you will see, after the Herne, Germany native went full extension to prevent a Panther shot that was ticketed to go upper 90 and find the back of the net.

Across the way, GSU's Christa Fox registered three saves.

Georgia State outshot Tech 20-7, led by senior Callie O'Connor's seven. Zoie Hensely paced the Golden Eagles with two shots.

The Golden Eagles will have a little more time to prepare for its next match, hosting Radford on Sunday, Sep. 13. Kickoff at Tech Soccer Field is slated for 1 p.m. CT.

JACKSONVILLE STATE 1, JACKSON STATE 0
JACKSON, Miss. -
The Jacksonville State soccer team broke out of its scoring slump with a 1-0 win over Jackson State on Sunday afternoon at the JSU Soccer Complex in the Magnolia State.

The win snapped a two-match losing skid for the Gamecocks as they improved to 2-4 on the season and posted the club's first win away from Jacksonville this season. The Tigers of JSU fell to 2-3-1 on the season. Jax State continued its dominance over teams from the Southwestern Athletic Conference as the win pushed the Gamecocks' all-time record against the SWAC to 19-1-1.

It didn't take Jax State very long to put the eventual game-winning goal on the scoreboard as senior Courtney Hurt tallied her first goal of the season in the fifth minute of the contest. After struggling to put together scoring chances in the past two outings on the pitch, the Gamecocks turned in a season-high 21 shots in the match and finished with a season-best 15 on goal chances. Jax State had 14 of the 21 shot attempts in the first 45 minutes and limited the Tigers to just three in the first half.

Hurt's goal, which was her 19th of her career, moved her into a tie for seventh all-time in goals scored at JSU. The Huntsville, Alabama native took a cross from junior Nicola Dominikovich to set up the lone goal in the contest.

Jax State controlled the contest the rest of the way, but could not push another result on the board for insurance in the match. The Gamecocks and Tigers were equal in shots in the second half with seven on each side. Senior Kelsey Bright registered a match-high five shots, followed by Katt Dowd with four.

After making eight stops on Friday night against Georgia State, sophomore goalkeeper Caroline Robinson recorded five saves on Sunday.

The Gamecocks will have a rare Friday night off and will return to action on Sunday, Sept. 13 against Alabama State. Match time is set for 1 p.m. at the JSU Soccer Field.

SOUTH ALABAMA 2, AUSTIN PEAY 1
MOBILE, Ala. –
Junior Gina Fabbro helped Austin Peay State University women’s soccer team break its two-game scoreless streak, but a late goal by South Alabama put the Lady Govs on the wrong end of a 2-1 result at The Cage.

Austin Peay falls to 1-4-0 after a third consecutive defeat, while the Jaguars improve to 5-1-0.
The Lady Govs got off to a much better start than their previous match against Troy. Senior Shelby Olszewski took the game’s first shot, putting it wide, and goalkeeper Lindsey Todd stood her ground in net to make a game-high eight saves.

In the 22nd minute, South Alabama would get on the scoreboard as a pass by Steffi Hardy sailed beyond the APSU defense. Ashlynn Jones recovered it, and scored the first goal from just inside the 18-yard box.
After a one-sided first half where Austin Peay was out-shot 13-2, head coach Kelley Guth continued experimenting with her starting 11, and the second-half lineup produced.

Fabbro, who suffered a lower body injury in the preseason, returned to form in the 52nd minute after a slow start to her third year. A pass from senior Shelby Olszewski was lofted near the Jaguar keeper, where Fabbro settled and put it into the back of the net. It’s the 15th career goal for the Canadian, tying Andy Quiceno for third all-time.

The Lady Govs held a shot advantage over South Alabama in the second half (5-3), and earned three corners. But after a shot by Fabbro was saved in the 79th minute, the Jaguars charged forward. Two minutes later, Alyssa Mayer led a break, and sent a deep cross to Chelsea Followwell, who hit it one-time on a low volley.

Down 2-1, freshman Jennifer Smith took two late shots in a comeback effort – one blocked and the other sailing wide right – but it was too little, too late.

The Lady Govs return to Clarksville to begin a three-match homestand beginning 7 p.m., Friday, against Western Illinois.

TENNESSEE 3, MURRAY STATE 0
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -

Harriet Withers led the Racers with three shots while Taylor Stevens and Marissa Burroughs each had a pair of shots.

Shelby Haworth made a trio of saves for Murray State.

The Racers will be back in action on Friday as they host Louisiana Tech.
