Now in its 76th year, the Ohio Valley Conference continues to build on the success that has made it the nation's eighth-oldest NCAA Division I conference. Over those previous 75 years the League has inspired student-athletes to realize their academic aspirations, maximize their athletics potential, and cultivate their leadership skills to prepare them for life beyond their collegiate experience.
As part of a partnership with
Digital Scoreboards, each week through the academic year, we will honor an OVC student-athlete who has excelled in the classroom, in addition to earning accolades on the playing surface.
This week's honoree is Morehead State senior guard
Drew Thelwell. Last year he was named to the OVC Commissioner's Honor Roll for his work in the classroom. A year ago he started all 34 games and averaged 11.1 points and 4.3 rebounds/game. This season he has led MSU to a 9-4 record in averaging 11.0 points, 6.1 assists and 2.9 rebounds/game. He had 19 assists on December 21 against Alice Lloyd, the most by a Division I player this season.
