In the second half, the Lions would keep the Jaguars off their game for the majority of the second frame. The Jaguars would find their footing in the 79th minute, scoring off a penalty kick, to tie the game up at 1-1. Not more than a minute later, the Jaguars would put another shot in the back of the net to change the tides with the Jaguars leading 2-1 with ten minutes to go. One minute later, in the 81st minute, the Jaguars would put one last shot in the back of the net to lead 3-1. The Lions would remain scoreless the remainder of the match.

NORTHERN KENTUCKY 3, MOREHEAD STATE 0
HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky.
- Morehead State sophomore goalkeeper Erin Gibbs came up with a career high nine saves but it came on the short end as the Morehead State soccer team was overwhelmed 3-0 by host Northern Kentucky on the road Sunday afternoon.

Gibbs was put to the test, as NKU had 16 total shots and 12 on target. The Eagles fell to 1-4-2 in 2023.

The Eagles found themselves in a early hole, allowing a corner kick score just 3:24 into the matinee. The Norse made it 2-0 in the 16th minute and finished off the scoring in the 67th with a second corner-kick finisher.

MSU made a flurry in the final seven minutes, with a trio of shots, including a free kick at the top of the box. But, three NKU keepers kept its scoreless streak alive at five straight matches.

The Eagles finished with eight shots and five on goal. Fifth-year forward Nicole Fiantaco led the way with three.

MSU returns to action Thursday, hosting UNC Asheville at 6 p.m. ET.

SOUTHERN INDIANA 1, NORTHERN ILLINOIS 1
EVANSVILLE, Ind. - University of Southern Indiana Women's Soccer closed a season-long homestand at Strassweg Field on Sunday afternoon with a 1-1 tie against Northern Illinois University.

Replicating the final score from last year's meeting between the two schools, Sunday's draw moved USI to 1-5-2 on the season and Northern Illinois to 2-2-2. The 1-1 tie was USI's second consecutive result after Thursday's win against Austin Peay State University. The Screaming Eagles went 1-1-1 during the three-match home set.

Sunday's first stanza was highlighted by strong defensive play from both teams. Even though USI and NIU each had good build-up play into the attacking third, neither side could find a breakthrough. In the middle of the first half, Northern Illinois ran into Southern Indiana's defensive box, but USI sophomore keeper Anna Markland (Hoover, Alabama) charged off her goal line and blocked a shot away from the goal.

The Screaming Eagles had two shots off free kicks in the opening 45 minutes and a third attempt by senior defender Alexis Schone (Galena, Ohio) that threatened the goal but was punched away by NIU's goalkeeper. The match was scoreless at halftime with each team recording three shots in the first half.

The second half began with the same back-and-forth stalemate. Then in the 62nd minute, USI went on the attack. Freshman midfielder Lydia Bordfeld (Evansville, Indiana) found a ball at her feet that she blasted into the crossbar, but the ricochet went right to senior midfielder Avery Schone (Galena, Ohio). Schone buried the putback into the net for her first goal of the season off the assist from Bordfeld, giving USI a 1-0 advantage. Northern Illinois tied the match in the 86th minute on a successful penalty kick by graduate forward Sahara Zingano. Then in the final seconds of the match, the Huskies made one last effort to score the go-ahead goal, but Markland made a big, diving save to her near post to block a shot away and keep the 1-1 draw intact.

Statistically, the Screaming Eagles tallied seven shots with four on goal, while the Huskies totaled six shots with five on target. A physical, defensive contest led to 27 combined fouls. Avery Schone paced USI with three shots, placing two on frame including her 62nd-minute goal. Markland finished with four key saves for Southern Indiana.

Southern Indiana heads back on the road Thursday for a 7 p.m. kickoff against the University of Kansas City. Thursday's match can be seen on the Summit League Network.

CHICAGO 2, EASTERN ILLINOIS 1
CHARLESTON, Ill.
- On a sunny afternoon of celebrations at Lakeside Field, Eastern Illinois women's soccer wraps up non-conference play fighting hard until the last minute, but ends the day defeated by Chicago State, 2-1. The Panthers sit at a 1-4-2 record while the Cougars move to a 2-5 on their season.

The match started with EIU aggressive on the attack half. In the 4th minute of the game, Abby Reinl found Zenaya Barnes with a pass in behind the Cougars defense. Barnes then found the back of the net with a right foot diagonal finish to give the Panthers the early 1-0 lead. In the 13th minute of the match, the Cougars took advantage of one of its few opportunities with Daliisha Spence scoring the equalizing goal. The Panthers kept pressing the visitors as EIU finished the half with seven shots, but were unable to score.

In the second half, the game became more balanced as both teams were looking for the win. In the 74th minute, Gisselle Sahagun found the goal that would give the Cougars the 2-1 lead. EIU kept fighting for the equalizing goal until the last minute as Zanaya Barnes had a shot saved by the Cougar's defense on the goal line. The Panthers finished the game with one player down as a red card was given to EIU in the 80th minute of the match.

Goalkeepers Lexi Prusow and Ella Kratochvil recorded one save each as the Panthers rotated goalkeepers at halftime.

EIU outshot Chicago State 10-5.

Prior to the start of the match, EIU honored the service eight seniors: Peyton Gill, Cami Lummus, Serra Pizano, Ava Hensley, Nyah Biegler, Karima Rangel, Cam Korhorn, and Lexi Prusow.

EIU will have eleven days to prepare for its conference opener as the Panthers host SIUE on Thursday, Sept. 21st.

ILLINOIS STATE 4, WESTERN ILLINOIS 1
NORMAL, Ill.
-The Leathernecks traveled to Normal on Sunday to play Illinois State, a match that proved to be all Redbirds. Haley Glover scored all 4 in a match that ended with a 4-1 score. Leatherneck forward Kelsi McThenia scored the lone goal for the Leathernecks, a 49th minute header that came off of a cross from fullback Rita Moran.

Illinois State started off the scoring early, as Glover had a brace by the 12th minute. She picked up the hat trick in the 27th minute, but things would start to look better for the Leathernecks after a Redbird was sent off in the 33rd minute for a hair-pulling incident. Moran would leave the rest of the half with injury, but would return in the second.

Knowing they only had ten players for the two-thirds of the match saw Western put lots of pressure on ISU in spurts, leading to a lot of opportunities, but the Leathernecks were not able to score in the first half, as they went into the break down 3-0.

McThenia capitalized with the Leathernecks having the extra-woman advantage and hammered a header into the back of the net that would give Western some life. The Redbird defense would remain strong after the goal though, as it would be the only one they allowed in the match. ISU nabbed a 4th goal in the 70th that would all but seal the game from the Redbirds.

A major reason WIU struggled defensively was due to the absence of two-time OVC GK of the week, Isabel Navas Rodriguez. McFarland, Wisconsin native Avery Weaver started the match in net in place of Rodriguez, which was a big ask of the freshman.

Looking ahead, the Leathernecks have a 10 day break before their next game, where they welcome the Redhawks of SEMO to open OVC play.

SOUTHEAST MISSOURI 2, MURRAY STATE 0
MURRAY, Ky.
- Southeast Missouri soccer (3-2-1) shut out Murray State (2-6-0) Sunday afternoon with goals coming from sophomore Cayla Koerner and freshman Emily Baker. The Redhawks beat the Racers 2-0 with both of their goals coming in the second half.

The Redhawks tied a season high with 14 total shots in the win, with eight different players registering a shot with eight being on goal for a season high.

SEMO went scoreless in the first half but went to work in the second scoring goals in the 47th and 61st minute.

Cayla Koerner scored the first goal for the Redhawks when she received a pass from Alayna Jakul and slotted it into the bottom right of the goal. This marks her third goal of the year.

Koerner finished the day tying season highs in shots (6) and shots on target (3). To cap off her performance, she added one assist to the stat sheet.

Emily Baker kicked the ball past the goalie into the bottom left of the net off a pass from Koerner for the second goal of the game.

Senior Maddie Paulson notched the first shot for the Redhawks in the seventh minute, narrowly missing the net.

Emma Brune recorded two shots on target only six minutes apart in the first half. Both saved at the top right of the goal in the 29th and 35th minutes.

Zoey Houston and Elizabeth Rater both recorded a shot in today's contest. Rater's shot came in the first half at 36:43 and Houston's shot came in the 55th minute in the second half.

Forward Megan Heisserer registered one shot that was on target in the second half. Heisserer now has three shots on the season with all of them being on target.

Redhawks goalie Sophia Elfrink notched six saves playing all 90 minutes of the game. The Racers goalie Griselda Revolorio also had six saves on the day.

Mary Hardy tallied four shots, three being on goal to lead the Racers.

The Redhawks will return home to Cape Girardeau for a match against Columbia College. First kick is set for 6:00 p.m. C.T., on Thursday, September 14 at Houck Field.
