Now in its 73rd year, the Ohio Valley Conference continues to build on the success that has made it the nation's eighth-oldest NCAA Division I conference. Over those 73 years the League has inspired student-athletes to realize their academic aspirations, maximize their athletics potential, and cultivate their leadership skills to prepare them for life beyond their collegiate experience.
As part of a new partnership with
GameTime Hydration, each week through the rest of the academic year, we will honor an OVC student-athlete who has excelled in the classroom, in addition to earning accolades on the playing surface.
This week's honoree is Belmont senior soccer forward
Julie Garst. A Nursing major, Garst earned the OVC Academic Medal of Honor for 2019-20 for achieving a perfect 4.0 grade point average.
In 2019 she was named the MVP of the OVC Tournament after leading the Bruins to its first OVC Championship. During the year she earned second-team All-OVC honors after leading the team in goals, assists, points and shots.
