Now in its 73rd year, the Ohio Valley Conference continues to build on the success that has made it the nation's eighth-oldest NCAA Division I conference. Over those 73 years the League has inspired student-athletes to realize their academic aspirations, maximize their athletics potential, and cultivate their leadership skills to prepare them for life beyond their collegiate experience.
As part of a new partnership with
GameTime Hydration, each week through the rest of the academic year, we will honor an OVC student-athlete who has excelled in the classroom, in addition to earning accolades on the playing surface.
This week's honoree is Tennessee State volleyball libero
Gina Rivera-Ortiz. Last year she earned the OVC Academic Medal of Honor for achieving a perfect 4.0 grade point average as a health sciences major.
She is in her third year as a starter for Tennessee State. A year ago she recorded 490 digs in 29 matches and reached the 1,000 career dig plateau in just her second season with the program.
