Now in its 73rd year, the Ohio Valley Conference continues to build on the success that has made it the nation's eighth-oldest NCAA Division I conference. Over those 73 years the League has inspired student-athletes to realize their academic aspirations, maximize their athletics potential, and cultivate their leadership skills to prepare them for life beyond their collegiate experience.
As part of a new partnership with
GameTime Hydration, each week through the rest of the academic year, we will honor an OVC student-athlete who has excelled in the classroom, in addition to earning accolades on the playing surface.
This week's honoree is SIUE senior pitcher
Collin Baumgartner. He was named to the OVC Commissioner's Honor Roll in 2019-20 for his work in the classroom.
Baumgartner will miss the 2021 season with an injury. In 2019 he led the OVC with 15 regular season starts, striking out 82 batters in 72.1 innings. A year ago he started four games for the Cougars, earning a 1-1 record with a 3.05 ERA.
