Now in its 73rd year, the Ohio Valley Conference continues to build on the success that has made it the nation's eighth-oldest NCAA Division I conference. Over those 73 years the League has inspired student-athletes to realize their academic aspirations, maximize their athletics potential, and cultivate their leadership skills to prepare them for life beyond their collegiate experience.
As part of a new partnership with
GameTime Hydration, each week through the rest of the academic year, we will honor an OVC student-athlete who has excelled in the classroom, in addition to earning accolades on the playing surface.
This week's honoree is Austin Peay senior tennis player
Fabienne Schmidt. Schmidt was one of six OVC student-athletes to earn the prestigious OVC Scholar-Athlete Award this past fall. She has a 4.0 grade point average in marketing and has earned numerous other academic honors during her career.
She earned All-OVC honors in each of her four years in college, including second-team All-OVC honors this year after going 8-5 in the regular season. She won both of her singles matches in the OVC Championship to help lead the Govs to the OVC title. She has 67 total singles wins during her collegiate career.
